What We Are Doing

We are constructing a replacement storm overflow with powered screen and associated sewer upsizing and realignment in Kelty as part of our £500million Improving Urban Waters programme.

Why We Are Doing It

Working closely with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) Scottish Water identified priority storm overflows for improvement or replacement.

Under the banner ‘Draining the Rain, Enhancing the Environment’ the investment will help prevent sewage related debris such as wet wipes from entering the environment during periods of rainfall.

Latest Update - December 2025

Work is progressing well, and traffic management will be removed ahead of the festive period.

The remaining work will be carried out under two-way traffic lights in the new year.

A planning application will be submitted to Fife Council in early January for the installation of fencing around the site for access purposes. Full details of the planning application will be posted at Fife Council’s planning portal.
