Armadale Road Whitburn Sewer Replacement
Armadale Road
The road is closed to southbound traffic heading from Bathgate into Whitburn
We are carrying out urgent sewer replacement work on Armadale Road in Whitburn, West Lothian.
A pipe running beneath a pavement is in extremely poor condition and approximately 100 metres needs to be replaced.
We had hoped to keep the road open for traffic travelling from Whitburn town centre towards Armadale and Bathgate but unfortunately motorists were ignoring no entry signs in the other direction and driving into oncoming traffic.
Armadale Road is therefore closed to all traffic between East Main Street and Empire Street.
Everything is being done to carry out the work as quickly as safety will allow. We would like to thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding.

Approximately 50 metres of sewer has been replaced on Armadale Road
Latest Update - December 2025
Our teams have so far repaired approximately 50 metres of the sewer.
Work is being paused on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January. Emergency resources will be on standby throughout this time.
A team will be on site from Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 December.
The next stage of work will see the replacement of a further 12-15 metre section of sewer on the footpath north of our current works, as well as a section of sewer which crosses the carriageway on Armadale Road. Additionally, a further 50 metres of sewer on the footpath at the bottom of Armadale Road will need to be replaced. These works can be carried out under the road closure that is currently in place.
Our teams are working hard to minimise disruption, particularly for customers within the closure.
