Investigating supply issues in Falkirk, FK1
Stage 3 - Repair Underway
We have located a 9” burst water main in the south of Falkirk, FK1 which serves our customers in the Hallglen, Glen Village & Lochgreen area.
Our team on site has been working to re-route alternative water supplies via unaffected parts of the network, to restore water supply to customers as quickly as possible, while a complex repair on the damaged water main gets underway. This temporary change has now been put in place we are beginning to see pressure build within the network – affected customers should see water supplies return and pressure gradually build.
We understand customers in this area have been impacted by similar water outages recently and that it can be difficult being without water – we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused this evening. Our priority is always to restore customers supplies as quickly as possible whilst repairs are underway.
Our Customer Support team is working to offer support to customers who are on our Priority Services Register and we will continue to offer extra help to potentially vulnerable customers until normal service is restored.
As customers’ supply begins to return, they may find that their water is discoloured or that pressure is intermittent. This is common after the normal flow of water through main pipes has been disrupted; and we would advise anyone experiencing this to run their cold kitchen tap at half pressure until the water runs clear.

Discoloured Water FAQs
If the water from your cold kitchen tap (or any other mains fed tap) suddenly becomes discoloured, this could be because some maintenance or repair work is being carried out on our network in your area. If we have not informed you of any work being carried out, please contact us for more details. If we are not working in your area, we will investigate the cause of discolouration for you and let you know. For more information please see our factsheet: Colour, taste and odour explained.
In most cases discoloured water is not harmful and can be cleared by running the first incoming cold water tap (usually in the kitchen) at a trickle until it clears. Very occasionally customers have noticed "tiny particles" or "bits" in their tap water. This can be caused by planned or unplanned work to the water supply network which causes natural sediment in the pipes to shift (quite often this is a dark red, brown colour).
Small dark grey or black particles can occasionally be caused if your pipework is made from lead. This is most likely if your house was built before 1970. For more information see our Lead and Your Water pages.
