Riverside Road Sewer Project, Thurso
Project overview
We are investing in the sewer network in Thurso's Riverside Road to ensure it can continue to serve customers in the area and protect the environment for years to come.
This project, which is expected to be completed in October, involves lining the sewer pipe which runs underneath the pier and replacing a number of the metal cross beams which are securing it to the structure.
Single lane traffic will be in operation on Riverside Road for the duration of the work.

What We Are Doing
We are relining approximately 110m of the sewer pipe which runs underneath the pier on Riverside Road in Thurso, and replacing a number of the metal cross beams which secure it to the structure. We will also be installing new metal cross beams above the pipe, again to help with securing it to the pier.
Our project team, working with contractors MacAuley Askernish, will be setting up at the site during the week of June 3, with work getting underway the following week. It is anticipated that the project will be on going until October 2024. During this time, the pier itself will be cordoned off and there will be single lane traffic in operation on Riverside Road.
While the relining of the pipe is being carried out, we will need to over-pump the affected section of the sewer network for around four weeks via a temporary pipe which will run along a section of RiversideRoad. Our project team will do all they can to minimise any disruption caused by the work.
Resurfacing work along Riverside Road will also take place at the end of the project in October following investigatory work that was carried out regarding the possible relocation of the sewer.
