Progress On-Site

Significant progress has been made on site, with completion expected in the coming months.

What We Are Doing

Scottish Water and its main contractor George Leslie Ltd. are replacing around 30m of waste water pipe and surface water pipe beneath King George V Playing Fields, adjacent to Provost Driver Court Sewage Pumping Station.

Two manholes will also be constructed.

These are complex works due to the poor, sandy ground conditions and high water table within the work area.

Specialist sub-contractors and equipment are being used.

Why We Are Doing It

In 2020 we identified ingress of silt to the waste water infrastructure within Provost Driver Court Sewage Pumping Station. Steps were taken to rectify the situation, however, the silt reappeared within a matter of weeks.

Investigations were carried out and a sunken area of land was identified on the playing fields above the main sewer line running into the pumping station. A damaged section of waste water pipe was allowing sand and silt to enter the waste water network.

These works will help return the existing pumping station to full operation, removing the need for continued Scottish Water site presence and increased maintenance visits carried out by Scottish Water and a wide range of contractors.

Latest Updates - March 2025

Significant progress has been made on site, with the majority of construction now complete. The newly installed pipework is live and fully integrated into the existing sewer network.

Key Updates

  • Excavations have been backfilled, and reinstatement of our work area is now underway.
  • The safe removal of plant and equipment is progressing, with our large crane now off-site and the site compound being reduced.
  • Deconstruction of site hoarding has begun, marking the transition towards project completion.
  • Discussions with the local council are ongoing to ensure the playing fields and school footpath reinstatement meet the required specifications.

Next Steps

  • Week commencing 3 March – Specialist contractors will be on site to install new pumps at the sewerage pumping station at the end of Provost Driver Court.
  • Throughout March – The new pumps will be commissioned, and the temporary pumps will be removed.
  • End of March – The majority of our demobilisation from the site will be complete. Some sections of the field will remain fenced off for ongoing monitoring activities, which will continue for up to six months post-completion.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of local residents as we work to complete this essential infrastructure improvement.
